IMPLAN Has EU Data

Home / Blog / IMPLAN Has EU Data

The worldwide economy is constantly evolving and the impacts of economic decisions often cross borders. For decades, researchers, business leaders, and decision-makers have trusted IMPLAN’s data in order to analyze and explore economic activity within the U.S. Those years of data expertise have now gone into crafting IMPLAN’s European Union (EU) data.

What is in the EU Data?

IMPLAN’s EU data consists of fully disclosed input-output tables and multipliers which have been compiled by IMPLAN economists and organized into a workable format in Excel. You will find 64 industries represented in the data and monetary figures are reported in Euros (€). The figures are broken into four levels of regionality or nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS). Those NUTS are:

  • NUTS0: 28 countries
  • NUTS1: 98 major socio-economic regions
  • NUTS2: 276 basic regions for the application of regional policies
  • NUTS3: 1,342 small regions for specific diagnosis

The data contains figures sourced for Eurostat and the World Input-Output Database (WIOD) and falls into three overarching categories: Value Added, Employment, and Final Demand. The value added figures include industry output, wages and salaries, employers’ social contributions, consumption of fixed capital, taxes less subsidies on products, and more. Employment figures are reported in terms of people (i.e. a person with 2 jobs will be counted as 1 employee under their primary job). Employment data consists of employee and self-employed counts. Final demand data is presented for households, non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH), and governments. The dataset also contains demographics, commodity descriptions, deflators, and more.

What Insight Can I Gain?

The same granular detail found in IMPLAN’s U.S. data is very same you can expect from the EU dataset. Model economic changes to industry output, employment figures, employee compensation, and more. The EU data relies on a radiation model, which uses distance between trade partners and intervening supply or demand to estimate impact values. With the EU dataset you can analyze commuting flows, trade flows, economic contributions, fiscal impacts, and more. The data is also built to run Multi-Region Input-Output (MRIO) analyses. With MRIO capability, you have the ability to quantify indirect and induced economic effects that occur outside of the direct impact area.

What to Take Away

IMPLAN’s EU data fills in non-disclosures and ensures intuitive IO tables and multipliers for modeling, analyzing, and answering any economic questions. IMPLAN has been the trusted source of U.S. economic data and modeling technology for over 40 years, and that experience and expertise is the very same that has gone into crafting the EU dataset.
